AMC 8+ Level 2 & AMC10 Entry - 7/8th grade
Syllabus:
Quarter 1 – intensive practice session
This practice-based level will serve as a compressive practice of problems related to contents in AMC8+ Level 1 (including multiple mock-exams in the first quarter before the exam date).
Quarter 2 / Quarter 3.
• Counting Problem (3 weeks)
– Multiplication Principle;
– Permutation & Combination;
– Inclusion-exclusion Principle; Binding and Insertion; Recurrence Relation.
• Number Theory (3 weeks)
– Factor, Divisor and Multiple; Prime Numbers and Prime Factorization;
– The least common multiple and the greatest common divisor;
– Remainder; Numbers in different bases; indefinite equations (optional).
• Quadratic Equations (2 weeks)
– Completing the square & Quadratic Formula; Vieta’s formula;
– Simplification of Power of Roots; Cross-Multiplication.
• Plane Geometry-I (2 week)
– Area; Side Length and Perimeter; Angles.
– Congruent Triangles; Areas.
• Plane Geometry-II (1 week)
– Similar Triangles;
• Plane Geometry-III (1 week)
– Pythagorean Theorem.
• Plane Geometry-IV (2 weeks)
– Topics on Circles.
• Solid Geometry (2 weeks)
– Rectangular Box; Cylinder;
– Cone; Sphere; Pyramid & Tetrahedron (optional)
• Coordinate Geometry (2 weeks)
– Coordinate system; equations of lines, circles; Ellipse (optional); Parabola; Hyperbola (optional);
• Probability (2 weeks)
– Discrete Probability;
– Continuous Probability: 1D, 2D, 3D (optional).
Homework and in class practice problems:
Most of our practice problems are chosen from various math competitions in China, USA and the countries with proper adjustments & modifications.
